First qualifying of the season and Jack Goff in his Wix Racing with Eurotech Honda claims the first pole of 2018 around the Brands Hatch Indy circuit.
The first ten minutes of the session saw numerous drivers take the top spot but then it settled down to only a few who looked like taking the first pole of the year. Dan Cammish was the first man to go below the 48 second barrier as he put his Honda on top, however, he drove through a red light in the pit lane therefore having his time removed. Jack Goff inherited the pole position and thats how it would stay for the final ten minutes of the session.
Sam Tordoff on his return to the championship impressed as he put his Ford Focus RS machine into 2nd just 0.093s behind Goff. Runner up in last years championship, Colin Turkington put his BMW in 3rd and Dan Cammish recovered to place the 4th fastest time. Andrew Jordan made sure the other BMW’s weren’t far away as he finished the session in 5th place, just in front of series veteran Matt Neal in the second of the Yuasa Honda’s.
Tom Chilton, Mat Simpson, Tom Ingram and Brett Smith rounded out the first top ten qualifying of the year. Some other notable mentions include Rob Austin in 11th , Ciceley new boy Tom Oliphant finishing his first ever BTCC qualifying session in 15th and defending champion Ash Sutton all the way down in 18th.
Dont let the positions fool you though, as the whole field is separated by 1.1 seconds and it yet again looks to be a hectic and entertaining three races to kick of the 60th anniversary of the BTCC.
