Triple British Touring Car Champion Gordon Shedden and Honda/Halfords Yuasa Racing have today announced they would be parting company as the Scot decides to take on a whole new challenge in 2018 away from the BTCC.
Shedden first joined the team back in 2006, completing three seasons for them and claiming ten victories in the process and making his mark on Britain’s premier motor racing series. There has been many great drives from “Flash”, most notably the Brands Hatch fightback which won him the championship in 2015.
Speaking to BTCC.net Shedden had this to say:
“Today is a really difficult and emotional day for me. I can confirm I will not be competing in the British Touring Car Championship in 2018, which obviously means I will not be racing with Honda and Team Dynamics. They have been part of my life for the last 11 years and I have been made to feel a part of the family.”
I am very lucky to have had such a successful partnership with the team, Honda and all our sponsors. We have been on a huge journey together, achieving multiple Teams’, Drivers’ and Manufacturers’ Championships. Along the way, we have had a lot of fun and created memories I will take and cherish forever. It may be the end of a chapter, but it won’t be the end of the friendships I have made.”
During his time in the BTCC, Shedden raced 347 times, winning 48 of them putting him 4 in the all time list of race winners, 76 podiums, 12 pole positions and 51 fastest laps.
Some rumours suggest Flash will embark on a season of International racing after sampling TCR machinery towards the end of 2017 filling in for Rob Huff at the TCR finale.
Whatever the triple champion embarks on next, everyone at Essaar, and the touring car community wish Gordon all the best.
