The long summer break is almost over as the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship returns to the Snetterton Circuit in Norfolk this weekend.
Five weekends down with five to go and the series remains as unpredictable and competitive as ever. Nine drivers have already taken wins this season with a total of 14 drivers reaching the podium over the first half of the year. But now its coming towards the business end of the championship again, and with 15 races to go, all is still to play for.
Reigning champion, Honda’s Gordon Shedden, currently leads the standings as he hunts down for a third BTCC title in a row – a feat which hasnt been achieved for some 30 years by Andy Rouse. He is a man with a huge target on his back. He will have to fight off the experienced Rob Collard and Colin Turkington as the BMW’s lead the chasing pack.
Next up in the championship chase is Subaru’s Ashley Sutton. With a car that has shown some blistering form of late, he has secured a victory in each of the last two weekends and a trio of trips to the podium at Croft. Sutton is definitely an underdog but it would be naive to count him out for overall honours at this stage. Also still in the running are early pacesetters, Tom Ingram, Andrew Jordan and triple champion Matt Neal along with a whole host of other drivers who are only a small handful of points away from the summit.
A huge crowd is expected to descend on the Norfolk venue, with many more watching live on ITV4.
