It was “double-double, toil and trouble” for young racer Nicholas Reeve in the opening rounds of the Renault Clio Cup Juniors that took place at Silverstone, last weekend.

The 15 year-old from Romford took 2 Pole Positions and converted both starting positions into race winning positions but not without a skirmish along the way.

All was going according to plan when contact was made between the leading Reeve and Gus Burton who put Reeve into a 90 degree slide. Burton got through and crossed the line in first with Reeve second. However, after the race the officials deemed the move by Burton to be over robust and gave him a 1 second penalty to reverse the result and handed Reeve his first win of the season.

Nick gave me his thoughts on race 1: “Race 1 was interesting! My first ever race start in a Clio Cup car and it went decent. I didn’t stall it, which is good” he joked. “Throughout the race Gus kept me on my toes, I was always making sure I was just covering the inside line when he was close, but the contact…it was a move he was entitled to make up the inside however the space wasn’t there and we came together which resulted in some damage for me and him. The clerks done their job of keeping the racing clean as it it a non contact sport.”

Race 2 towards the end of the day was a closer affair this time with Lorcan Hanafin taking the charge to Reeve, with Louis Doyle and Gus Burton in close proximity through the race.

“Race 2 was a lot harder as Lorcan was keeping me on my toes this time. I was pushing my Specialised Motorsport car keeping him behind. The car was amazing and I knew I had to stay consistent.”
