Pierre Gasly (Team Mugen) will be looking to develop upon his breakthrough victory this weekend at Autopolis this weekend.
The Frenchman took advantage of a mistake made during Kamui Kobayashi’s (KCMG) pitstop to claim his maiden win in the series.
This now means five different race winners have won the five races, in what has been a competitive season thus far.
Hiroaki Ishiura (P.mu/cerumo・INGING) still leads the drivers’ standings ahead of André Lotterer (Vantelin Team Tom’s), after fighting through the field from 16th on the grid to finish in an incredible fourth.
The Autopolis circuit consists of a variety of medium and high-speed corners, with the pit lane situated on the outside of the track; something which is rare in Japan.
In addition to this, the drivers will be required to use the medium and soft tyre compounds during the race as they did in the previous round at Motegi, with the aim of creating more unpredictable racing for the spectators.
The 2015 race was highly reliant on strategy and saw Kazuki Nakajima beat (Vantelin Team Tom’s) pole sitter Ishiura to the line, with Kobayashi finishing in a distant third.
Qualifying coverage starts at 1:30pm local time (5:30am BST), before Sunday’s race coverage at 12:40pm (4:40am BST) which will be streamed live on motorsport.tv (subscription required).
