Reports from Japan have suggested that Red Bull junior Dan Ticktum will lose his seat in Super Formula.

The 20-year-old Briton, who is a two-time Macau Grand Prix winner, made his full season debut for Team Mugen this year.

However, Ticktum has struggled to get to grips with the Dallara SF19 and has only scored a single point in Suzuka.

His troubles were highlighted last weekend at Sportsland SUGO, after qualifying 15th and being well off the pace of team-mate Tomoki Nojiri.

In contrast, fellow Red Bull junior Lucas Auer has fared much better. In the same race, he finished third and is currently sixth in the championship.

This would mark the second driver change of the season, after Tristan Charpentier was sacked after one race.

Similar reports have arose as to who would replace Ticktum, with Patrico O’Ward being the favourite.

The 20-year-old Mexican won the Indy Lights title in 2018 for Andretti Autosport.

In addition, O’Ward currently races part-time for Carlin in IndyCar and achieved the fastest lap during the IndyCar Grand Prix.

More recently, MP Motorsport confirmed that O’Ward would take Mahaveer Raghunathan’s Formula 2 seat, after the latter was suspended.

Following Ticktum’s alleged dismissal, the reports have raised speculation over his future with Red Bull.

Ticktum was touted for a race seat at Toro Rosso, with Super Formula being used to earn necessary Super Licence points.

However, this development could see him dropped from the Red Bull junior programme altogether.
